PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX — Everyone thinks that Thanksgiving is for football, but after today's display of talent, they might think again. BYU Women's Basketball matched up with the Rice Owls to conclude an action-packed day one at the 2024 Cancun Women's Riviera Tournament at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
BYU Cougars (6-1) and the Rice Owls (4-3) both put up 12 points in the first quarter, but the Cougars were dominant in the second quarter, outscoring Rice 19-10.The Cougars went into halftime with a 31-22 lead.
Delaney Gibb helped keep the Cougars ahead in the third quarter, finishing the with 17 points by the end of the quarter, and putting BYU up 47-35.
Dominique Ennis led the way scoring for Rice with 12. Gibb finished with 20 points for the Cougars.
The Owls will conclude their trip to Mexico tomorrow night against Vermont at 6:30 p.m. ET. BYU will then face off in a highly anticipated matchup against national runner-up, #22 Iowa Hawkeyes at 9 p.m. ET to follow. Both games will be broadcast live on FloCollege.
