A day after taking care of Temple to open its 2019 Cancun Challenge campaign, North Carolina followed up with another convincing win over Missouri, 82-69.
UNC’s combo of Madinah Muhammad (24 points) and Janelle Bailey (20 points) were too much for the Tigers to handle on Friday evening. The two combined for 12-19 shooting and 11 boards.
All five of North Carolina’s starters ended with double-figure point totals. Taylor Koenen stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Tigers crept within single digits of the Tar Heels. The run included a pair of threes from Haley Troup. Courtney Banghart’s guard tandem of Muhammad and Shayla Bennett were able to put the game to bed in the end, giving North Carolina a perfect 6-0 start to the early season.
Amber Smith led the way for Missouri. The senior tallied 16 points and pulled down five rebounds. Jordan Chavis (14 points) and Hayley Frank (13 points) also posted impressive performances.
